The Winery

The story of a heroic viticulture, born in Limés, Cangas de Narcea, and carried on today by those who believe in its legacy.

Cangas

The Cangas Protected Designation of Origin lies in south-western Asturias, an area with a strong winemaking tradition.

Our winery is in Limés, in the very heart of this appellation, where the vineyards are shaped by a mountain climate, soils rich in slate and schist, and a landscape of steep slopes.

A demanding landscape that gives rise to a distinctly artisanal way of growing vines, where work on the terraces turns every harvest into an exercise in heroic viticulture.

History

On these lands, for generations, the vineyard was part of the life of the families of Cangas, who tended small plots handed down from parents to children. However, rural depopulation and the search for new opportunities away from the countryside put this way of life at risk. It was then that people like Antón Chicote decided to keep believing in this land, preserving their century-old vines and a way of working rooted in the territory, and preventing the scrubland from taking the place of the vineyard.

Today

From the new perspective of Bodega Antón Chicote, we carry that commitment forward with our own way of understanding viticulture. Our winery preserves plots of century-old vines of exceptional quality, which are worked according to tradition, pursuing the greatest possible sustainability and grounded in respect for the rhythms of the land.

The terrain itself rules out mechanisation and shows us the way: here the harvest and all the care of the vines are done by hand, with dedication, vine by vine. We work our vineyards respecting the uniqueness of a territory that demands a great deal but in return gives us wines of unique quality and personality. Slate and schist soils allow the land to express itself, giving rise to Atlantic wines with a marked mineral character.
